Professor George N. Saridis
School of Electrical Engineering
Purdue University
Lafayette, Indiana 47907

Dear Professor Saridis:

\J
Enclosed is some preliminary information on the Model M.I.T.
manipulator you have on order. The layout drawings are to scale so
you can get some rough dimensions from them. The installation
instructions cover a suggested control scheme. I should add that
while some laboratories like M.I.T. have a computer based servo system,
there are several groups who are building hardware based servo
systems. The hardware systems seem easier to implement but in the
long run, at least some software servo routine is necessary for
optimum performance.

Also included is a wire list for your interface connections.
The cable between the arm and computer interface is a standard 50
conductor 3-M ribbon cable with the pin assignments as listed.

We are currently wiring up your arm and if all goes well
should have it ready very early in April. In the meantime I hope the
enclosed information is satisfactory. \.
